SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, March 30, 2016 – Greystone Construction today announced that its work on the CHS dry fertilizer storage and blending facility in St. Charles, Minn has earned the company a National Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) in the specialty industrial project category. The same project also earned the highest award from the Minnesota/North Dakota chapter of ABC.

“Greystone Construction earned this Excellence in Construction Award through their dedication to safety, quality craftsmanship and teamwork and Associated Builders and Contractors is pleased to honor them,” said 2016 ABC National Chair David Chapin, president of Willmar Electric Service, Lincoln, Neb. “From start to finish, Greystone Construction demonstrated a commitment to innovation and high quality construction in their work on the CHS fertilizer facility, a commitment that is clearly evident in the finished product.”

The project expanded CHS’s storage capacity from 4,000 tons to 16,000 tons with greater efficiency and speed for loading and unloading commodities. Greystone faced many challenges along the way such as needing to develop and train an in-house framing crew after the selected subcontractor was unable to meet the schedule. The Greystone crew met and exceeded expectations of both the Greystone project manager and CHS management throughout the framing process in terms of leadership, quality and reliability.

The Excellence in Construction Awards program is the industry’s leading competition, developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
